Persian Printed Cottons - The Victoria and Albert Colour Books

This selection of Persian fabrics from the Victoria and Albert Museum has been chosen to illustrated the diversity of prints that were used. Most are based on floral motifs - either a single blossom with leaves or a slightly more complex sprig in which several blossoms are attached to the stem. The time and trouble taken to print what were admittedly cheap fabrics, which were used for lining and backing grander pieces in silks or satins, and not, indeed intended to be seen al all, indicates how important colour and design were to the Persians of the 19th century...
