The Diary of a Victorian Squire - Extracts from the Diaries and Letters of Dearman and Emily Birchall

This is the story of a Quaker cloth merchange from Leeds, who bought a country house in Gloucestershire and became integrated with the Victorian squirearchy of whom several others had surprisingly similar backgrounds and tastes.

This book provides a delightful insight into everyday upper class family life in Victorian times and is edited by the squire's grandson David Verey who has written explanatory notes throughout. It is the nautual 'follow on' to The Diary of a Cotswold Parson with Bowden Hall and Prinknash Park reappearing under new ownership.
