The Frith family travelled the British Isles in the early 19th century doing portraits for the gentry and residents. This art form was overtaken by the camera. The Frith children emigrated to Australia and New Zealand where they adapted to this new medium with the same skills, producing a record of 19th century Tasmania, Victoria and New Zealand and their peoples, both indigenous and the newly settled.
