Description
Published by AH & AW Reed, 1965.
One wintry morning in 1847 Charles Dickens, in a somewhat despondent mood, wrote to his friend John Forster, describing himself as very mouldy and dull. Hardly able to work ... Disposed to go to New Zealand and start a magazine. Instead, he edited the weekly magazine 'Household Words', which he conducted in London for ten years, and later launched and edited its successor, 'All the Year Round'.
Mr J S Ryan embarked upon a diligent search of these periodicals with the purpose of locating, in articles and stories, all their references to New Zealand. These have now been gathered together in 'Charles Dickens and New Zealand'.
