John Drawbridge - Wide Open Interior
City Gallery/Mallinson Rendall Publishers, 2001. Ex library copy. Reasonable second hand condition.
The first major study of the leading New Zealand painter and printmaker who was best known for his murals in New Zealand House in London, and the Beehive and the National Library in Wellington. John Drawbridge lived at Island Bay in Wellington from his return to New Zealand in 1963 until his death in 2005. He was inspired by the colours, forms and rhythms of this coastal environment. He also explored the interior of his beachfront house, its many windows framing figures as well as vistas of the world beyond. This beautiful book features 32 full colour reproductions of these remarkable artworks and over 50 black and white illustrations. It also contains informative essays by Gregory O'Brien, Lara Strongman, Gerald Barnett and Robert Macdonald. Published in association with the City Gallery, Wellington.
