England covers over 50 000 square miles yet within this relatively small area there is amazing diversity. Miller and Waddell travelled to twelve English communities to film life there for a series of BBC documentaries. This is a record of that journey, of the towns and villages they saw and the friends they made. By focusing on a few people in each locality it becomes easier to understand the influences which have moulded their lives, and to reflect their hopes and fears for their particular patch in the future...
