The story of Goodnight Mister Tom includes the character of Young Willie Beach. Who is evacuated to the country, as Britain stands on the brink of the Second World War. As a sad, deprived child, he slowly begins to flourish under the care of old Tim Oakley, where the beginning of his new life started to take place. But his newfound happiness that he had formed, was taken away once again, by the summons from his mother returning back to London.

And as time begins to go by, Tom?s worries begin to increase more and more as Willie had not been answering his letters. So he decides to go to London to find him.

But there he makes a terrible discovery?
