Khorsandi was born in 1943 in Fariman and worked in various media jobs in Tehran. In 1976 he was sent by his employers, the Iranian Tourist Organization, to London to study English. When he returned to Iran at the time of the revolution, his satirical writings quickly brought demands for his execution from the Hezbollah mobs and he flew back to London 2 days after the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
