When Stanley Graham fired his 7mm hunting rifle on 8 October 1941, it was the blood of men, not game, he spilled at the little dairying settlement in Koiterangi. In one afternoon the crazed New Zealand farmer mowed down five people before escaping into the heavy West Coast bush behind his house. His actions triggered off the most intensive manhunt the country has known, yet Graham was at large for a total of twelve days and shot dead another two men before being captured by police on 20 October.
