Publication of his observations of the use by Maori of plant material for medicinal purposes is a triumph for Pip Williams in his 93rd year. As a pharmacist in Kaikohe serving a large section of the mid North during the 1930s Depression, and during and after WW2, Williams had first-hand experince of the lore and the financial constraints that gave reason for the use of Maori medicines. He makes no recommendations here, but indicates which plants were used for various problems, colourfully interspersing his notes, and the accompanying illustrations, with anecdotal evidence.
