Literature and the Historian - The English Assocation Presidential Address 1956

'Good writing is almost the concomitant of good history. Literature and history were joined long since by the powers which shaped the human brain we cannot pull them asunder.'
Wedgwood examines the literary qualities of Macauley, Gibbon, Trevelyan and Churchill and how this relates to Bury's proclamation that history was 'a science, neither more nor less.'
This was given as the presidential address of the English Association in July 1956.
