Description
The Sisters of the Little Company of Mary is a religious order founded in the nineteenth century by Englishwoman, Mary Potter, for the care of the sick and dying. Arriving in New Zealand in 1914, the Sisters established the four Lewisham hospitals (later known as Calvary hospitals) over the next fifty years. The Legacy of the Little Company of Mary is apparent throughout New Zealand's healthcare system. The Sisters themselves, surviving radical changes in society, are to be found, strong in spirit, in Christchurch, Wellington and Tonga, where they are involved in parish and social work.
