Herbert Ponting joined Scott's 1910 expedition and thus became the first 'camera-artist' of the Antarctic, gave the world its first authentic view of the southland terrain with its dazzling wildlife scenes. Frank Hurley went with Mawson's 1911-13 expedition to an unexplored part of the Antarctic continent, where more daunting conditions for the photographer could not be imagined.
