'Shagroons' was what the established Christchruch colonists nicknamed, rather derisively, the small group of wealthy Canterbury pastoralists who first founded the Christchurch Club in 1856. Renowned Canterbury historian Gordon Ogilvie provides an absorbing account of the characters (and rapscallions) who over the past 150 years have made up the membership of the Christchurch Club.
