After Bathing at Baxter's: Essays and Notebooks

A personal exploration by artist and writer, Gregory O'Brien, of some of the most significant New Zealand poets and painters of the twentieth century. The collection begins with James K Baxter. Other writers include: Kendrick Smithyman, Janet Frame and Ruth Dallas. Following a sequence of autobiographical stories, O'Brien shifts his gaze to the visual arts and writes about such artists as Ralph Hotere, Colin McCahon, Rosalie Gascoigne and Denis O'Connor.
