South Col - One Man's Adventure on the Ascent of Everest, 1953
Heinemann, 1954, 1st edition. In good condition with DW.
Noyce was the first member of the 1953 Everest Expedition to accomplish the ascent of the South Col - the smll plateau just below the summit, from which the successful party subsequently set out. This is his complement to Sir John Hunt's official narrative of the expedition. This book gives a record of the thousand-and-one physical and mental sensations that crowded in upon one highly sensitive person, both a climber and a writer, in the course of the adventure. Noyce personal reflections, recorded on the scene, carries the reader throughout the whole adventure right through to the celebratory return to England, replete with immediacy, intimacy and truth. The book includes poems written by the author on the expedition, and photos taken by him....
