The author was a patient who describes herself as a 'case history'. She had a traumatic time when her husband died suddenly shortly after their daughter was born. There after she had another relationship but this failed and she found herself functioning but putting many difficult thoughts deep into her subconscious. She had already had psychoanalysis and felt somewhat at peace with herself but when the opportunity came to volunteer for an experiment in LSD therapy she took it. She describes the 'journeys' she took , some in great detail, and then concludes how she felt afterwards. So, basically this is a 'description of an adventure in the unconscious human mind, as revealed through a chemical agency.'.
