This book is a challenge to tepid Christians, an attempt to shock them into an awareness of the scandal which they cause.

Mounier replies to crticisms from the great German philosopher, Nitezsche, as well as to more recent criticims. The object of Mounier's attack is not the unbeliever, but the Christian who presents Christianity in a form well fitted to shock.
