Description

1976, Wellington. Some foxing to pages. Dustwrapper slightly torn at edges otherwise good condition.

David Riccio, ugly and deformed but a magnificent musician and mimic, became the devoted secretary to Mary, Queen of Scotland. He describes life at Court; the splendour of her furniture, her jewels, her love of riding and hawking, and her efforts to do justice and befriend the poor. The public adored her - but her arch enemy Lord James Moray, a bastard half brother, never ceased in his efforts to push her off the throne. Hair raising though the final days of Riccio's life were, he remained loyal to the end.
