Covering 97 years of the history of the New Zealand Police, from 'horseback to helicopters'. The three basic guidelines for policing, which were inherited from the London Metropolitan Police, are still followed today - to protect life and property, to prevent crime, and to find and catch lawbreakers. The way of life in New Zealand changed as our country developed. Those changes affected police work and the service the community expected from them.
