Picturesque Sitka, sometimes called Sitka-by-the-Sea, is the only town in Southeast Alaska that faces the ocean. Located on the edge of the temperate rainforest on Baranof Island and within sight of the snow-capped volcanos, this former capital of Russian America has a diverse economy based on healthcare, public services, boat building, fishing, education, performing arts, and recreation.
