Harp in the Wind - A Love Story in Verse
Published by Steele Roberts Aotearoa, Wellington, 112 pages. Very good secondhand condition.
Willow Macky (1921-2006) is best known to New Zealanders for her popular Christmas carol 'Te Harinui', written in 1957 and still widely sung today. A folksong composer and singer in her heyday in the 1960s, Willow recorded and performed throughout New Zealand, celebrating our country, its history, people and places. But behind the public persona as she toured the country was a very different person.
All during this time Willow was grieving for a relationship that could not be. Writing poems to her lost love in the United States was Willow's way of assuaging her grief, and these poems were kept hidden for decades. Now, after her death, Willow's exquisitely poetic 'love story in verse' is told here for the first time.
