In Nahuatl, Mexico means `the bellybutton of the moon' and in the pre-Hispanic world, the lunar calendar - Tonalpohualli for the Mexicas and Tzolkin for the Mayas - held a distinguished position in their vision of the universe. It counted the years by dividing each one into 13 months made up of 20 days each.
