Sydney - The Harbour City
Two Sydney-siders born and bred, a painter and a writer, have created a collection of Sydney vignettes. The city is seen with love and candour. Rigby presents meticulous observations of cityscapes and harbour shorelines. His selective eye chooses and frames subjects that are at the same time dearly familiar yet subtly revealed, as if seen for the first time. Kingsmill's Sydney is as basic as a stroll along a beach, a trip on the Manly ferry, a walk through the city-but again, all is not quite as expected. Time runs back and forth. Oddities fascinate. A moment stands still for examination. It takes a lifetime to accumulate the impressions that give rise to these paintings and essays. Perhaps they will change your view of Sydney, one way or another...
