The Enchanted Coast
Published by John McIndoe, Dunedin, 1976.
'The Enchanted Coast' is the story of the western coastline of Tasman Bay that includes the lovely bays and headlands from the Motueka River to Separation Point and beyond. It is the story of near-discovery and discovery by the great navigators, the early exploration and settlement and of the people who lived there.
This is an account of a magical place first known by the Maoris and explored by Dumont d'Urville and settled by venturesome men and women. It is also the story of the characters who left their imprint in fact and legened and of those who fought to have the area recognised as too beautiful for exploitation. There is an assured future for the area now that much of it is included in the Abel Tasman National Park.
