Books about the Royal Navy Coastal Forces in WWII are very few and hard to find. This small yet excellent book covers British Coastal Forces and their small fleets of Motor Torpedo Boats, Motor Gun Boats and Motor launches. Many of the ratings and officers were from the Royal Navy Reserve (RNR) and owned their own boats in peacetime so they bought a wealth of small boat operations experience to the Coastal Forces. This was sorely needed as there had never been a fleet of small high speed attack craft in the Royal Navy before and no standard operational procedures existed. The crews formulated their own battle plans as they went along. The author was attached to Coastal Forces so all the experiences are first hand. Sometimes the narrative reads a little like propaganda but bear in mind this book was written and published during WWII so this is understandable...
