Railway Liveries - London Midland and Scottish Railway
The LMSR (London Midland and Scottish Railway) was a huge railway, the biggest of the `Big Four' created in 1923, and it took time to weld the various constituents of the new company into a cohesive whole. One of the most important contributions towards creating a corporate image was the adoption of a recognisable LMSR livery, which would replace the various colour schemes of the absorbed pre-Grouping companies. Perhaps the LMSR directors were aware that the other three of the `Big Four' were selecting green, of differing shades, for their locomotives, or perhaps it really was an all-powerful Midland Railway bias, that led them to select the MR crimson as their colour scheme - not only for locomotives but for carriages as well.
