This publication traces a century of women's history in the New Zealand legal profession and the judiciary. It looks at the progress and achievement of women within male-defined boundaries of the systems, and at issues of sex discrimination and bias. Both have as a basic tenet the upholding of justice, yet both are seen to be failing to do so within their own ranks. Gatfield is a well-known commentator on issues of law reform, employment equity and social policy.
