The Journals of Cochran Forbes - Missionary to Hawaii 1831-1864

The journals presented in this volume span more than 30 years in the life of Cochran Forbes. The first journal, begun on board the ship `Averick', covers the voyage from New Bedford to the Hawaiian Islands, 1831-1832. This is followed by a much longer diary, with entries recording the Forbes' experiences during the years 1837-1847. Finally, there are scattered entries, 1854-1864, written after the Forbes' return to the United States, where they settled in Pennsylvania...
