This book is about Burt's addiction to speed and his lifetime commitment to his ancient motorcycles. Burt was a Kiwi do-it-yourselfer in the finest tradition. the idea for this book was hatched many years ago when Burt first showed me his scrapbooks. Years later, while doing research for my film, The World's fastest Indian, I discovered Burt's son John now had these scrapbooks. I believed it would make a great record of Burt's life if I could reproduce pages from these four scrapbooks as well as include images from other sources I had tracked down. This book is Burt in his own words, as well as the reminiscences of some of his friends and others who, like me, found him to be an irresistibly entertaining personality.
