Discovering Lascaux

The authors, who have doctorates in prehistory, were members of the scientific team which studied and published works on the art and archaeology of the Lascaux cave, without doubt the most famous cave in the world. Prehistoric man chose it as a sanctuary 17,000 years ago, decorating it with a breathtaking display of wild oxen, horses, bison, stags, wild goats and a multitude of geometric symbols. By incredibly good fortune, numerous paintings and engravings survived almost intact.
