An unexpected and interesting view of life on New Zealand farms is given in 'Rouseabout Jane', which relates the experiences of an English girl who worked as a landgirl during the war years. Coming to a country where all was strange, she found conditions very different from those she knew in England. Her comments on the New Zealand scene and its people have an appealig freshness, while her experiences are unexpected and varied. She worked on small and large farms in both islands - from dairy farms to large sheep stations.
