The Faber Book of Tales of the Sea
This is an anthology of writings which aims to reflect all the various moods of the sea. It covers many aspects of seafaring over hundreds of years including accounts of and by sailors of all kinds and dealing with the exploits of great captains like Anson, Drake, Nelson and Vian as well as Robin Knox Johnston, Bill King and David Lewis. Also well represented is the Golden Age of sail, with its clippers which often covered 2500 miles a week, while their much larger successors sometimes took two months weathering Cape Horn. The author has had a lifelong passion for the sea and is chairman of the panel of judges for the Best Book of the Sea Award.
