From April to July 2003 Deborah Coddington was a Qantas Press Fellow at Wolfson College, Cambridge University, researching how to remove the state monopoly from education and give parents choice in education and schools. This book summarises her research. It is a thorough exploration of the arguments for and against giving parents freedom of choice in their children's education. As well as the possibilities for New Zealand, she writes about the Dutch and Swedish education system, where funding follows the child no matter what school he or she attends.
