'Last Shepherd' is an autobiography, industry history, analysis of the industry and its politics and plenty of fascinating anecdotes. For much of his career Roger Buchanan was involved in overseas promotion and was one of New Zealand's early 'China hands'. Wool was the stalking horse for our trade push into China and Roger took a leading role in this, over more than 50 visits and many negotiations - starting from before China opened up to the Western world. The book vividly describes highs, lows and fascinating incidents from his experiences in China, along with Japan, South Asia, Russia, Uk, Europe and the Middle East.
