Sean Chen was born in China in 1956 and moved to Auckland in 1988, where he worked in advertising before choosing to work as a full time artist. In 2003 he completed a Post Graduate Degree at Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland. He sees the landmarks of Auckland city in a fresh light and makes staid, time-honoured structures bend and strain, as if they are trying to break free of their foundations.
