A Woman's Life: Writing by Women about Female Experience in NZ

This book focuses on the everyday life of women in NZ, as seen by women writers.
It brings together over forty narratives of women's experience from childhood to old age, as daughters, lovers, mothers, friends - and workers.
The perspective range widely across past and present, Maori and Pakeha, town and country, rich and poor and in-between.
Some writers - Robin Hyde, Patricia Grace, Fiona Kidman - are now well known, others much less so.
The stories in this book are drawn from both fiction and non-fiction; some could be told only through legend or through talking to others. Whether they were published in 1893 or 1989, they speak clearly and forcefully to readers now of a woman's life.
