The Earthly Paradise, written between 1868 and 1870, by the celebrated artist, craftsman and author William Morrus, was the outcome of his admiration for Chaucer and his desire to write a collection of stories in verse arranged like The Canterbury Tales. Morris planned that his cycle of stories be told by a company of seafarers from various corners of Europe thrown together in their old age by the strange chances of fortune.
