In 1846 an Armed Police Force of a dozen or so Europeans and three Maori was established in New Plymouth, and this later became formally part of the New Ulster Armed Police Force. This book looks at the police in Taranaki and especially at the people at long-gone stations, such as Te Wera and Pukearuhe, and some of the characters who worked there. the police have often been forgotten when district histories have been written, and this book attempts to fill in those gaps.
