Kete Making: The Arts of the Maori Instructional Booklet

This booklet covers the making of two types of kete. The first is the kete kumara (sweet potato kit) which is used for the gathering of food, while the second is the kete whakairo (patterned kit) used for holding more valued articles. The designs for the patterned kit are shown in order of difficulty to allow children to work progressively from the relatively simple to the more complicated and difficult forms of plaiting.
