Description
Reed, 1972. Dustwrapper chipped, small tears at extremities. Previous owner's name inside.
On 28 February 1880 the sailing ship 'Westland', after a record-breaking voyage of eighty-six days from Plymouth, anchored in Lyttleton Harbour. On board were Susannah Tarling, her husband James and two sons, James and Willie. Two younger Tarling boys, Johnny and Thomas, had died on the long voyage out.
Many were the misfortunes faced by Susannah after she left her beloved Wales - of seven children born only three survived infancy. But although frail in boyd she showed a magnificent strength of character, and Mona Anderson's account brings vividly to life her grandparents' new life in colonial Canterbury.
